| Isachsen, Pinomaki, Tyszkiewicz & Loov win first heats, Gronholm rolls! | 13.09.2008, 17:48
The first day's action on the track in Slomczyn is now over. Jussi Pinomaki and Sverre Isachsen dominated the competition in their from the beginning. Per Niklas Loov and Lukasz Tyszkiewicz won first heats in RX Cup and division 2 respectively.
Division 2:
First heat in division 2 was won by Lukasz Tyszkiewicz. The Pole was 1.6 s faster than Tom Kotek, who also won his race.
RX Cup:
RX Cup competition was a bit more interesting for the fans. The second race, which featured all the top runners in the category, brought fierce fight right from the start. Andrzej Grigorjew took the lead immediately after the start and kept it until Lukasz Zoll overtook him on the second lap. The Polish crowd would love to see their two drivers in the top positions, but this wasn’t meant to be. Jos Sterkens managed to overtake Grigorjew on the third lap. On the last lap, Zoll had to go through joker lap. Sterkens already having done that earlier was close enough and he managed to pass the Pole smoothly to win the race.
Division 1A:
Jussi Pinomaki set the pace in division 1A big time. The Finn managed to hold off all of the competition by 4 seconds and more. Second fastest came Bossard, Cermak was third, 5 seconds slower than Pinomaki.
Polish fans had something to cheer about as Mikolaj Kasiborski won his race, but it hadn’t been always like that other Poles. Piotr Tyszkiewicz raced very well, but on his third lap he made a mistake and spun off the track on the gravel section. The time lost there meant he could only claim 16th fastest time. Gabor Bankuti was another one to suffer from bad luck as he crashed into the barrier while doing joker lap, damaging radiator in his Peugeot 206.
Division 1:
Flying Finn – nowhere has this nickname has been as adequate so far. Gronholm’s double roll on joker lap was definitely the most interesting event today. The Finn cut the curb a little too deep and went over the roof, hitting the barrier. Somehow the car got back on wheels facing the right direction, and Marcus engaged first gear quickly and drove off. All in all this excursion was not that costly timewise, as he managed to finish the heat with tenth time. This race was won by Michael Jernberg.
Sverre Isachsen proved his pace showed earlier in the timed practice, by beating everyone again. Jernberg and Eriksson rounded out the top three.
Gronholm’s off was not the only attraction for the crowd. Per Eklund lost a wheel on the last corner of the third lap and continued throughout the whole last on the three that were left. Jean Luc Pailer fought so hard with Lindefjell that he ended up hitting the barrier and losing a lot of time.
